Starting out on a new venture requires planning – setting vision.
As a husband and wife team, are you aligned?
What does success look like in 5, 10, 20 years? What legacy do you want to leave? What does a meaningful life look like to you and your spouse?
In October 2010, Huntley Cuthrell finished a long career in one industry, and before starting up his new business, he decided to do some vision work. And he asked his wife, Aimee, to participate.
When he asked Aimee to look way ahead and define what success looked like at the age of 75, Huntley was amazed as she described it so succinctly.
Listen, as Huntley and Aimee talk about their experience.
Do you know what’s important to your spouse? Have you been really listening?
Effective listening takes work, maybe even more so when it’s with your spouse. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been married 1 year or 22 years, which is how long Huntley and Aimee have been married.
If you think you know what success looks like to your spouse – ask again. See if you can describe it back to them – as well as Huntley can do it now.
Creating a shared vision with your spouse – that’s the beginning of a meaningful life.
When was the last time you and your spouse discussed a vision of your future?

Hi Robert, fantastic blog, simple yet very effective… and especially for a complex and sometimes difficult topic. You did a great job!!!
I’m a psychologist and couples counselor and I know what you are talking about when you say how important it is to have a shared vision in your relationship/marriage. So many couples stopped listening to each other years ago. It’s very sad because they would get so much further by having real conversations about their vision and future. I love your questions and your video!
Have a great day
Vanessa
Thanks Vanessa!
