Values Quotes – Mother Teresa on Love

Today’s quote is from Mother Teresa, the famous Roman Catholic nun who dedicated her life to serving the poorest among the poor.

Mother Teresa once stated:
“There is more hunger for love and appreciation in this world than for bread.”

From someone who has witnessed extreme poverty first hand, this statement is very insightful into what truly matters most. She understood basic human needs.

How often do we mistake the pursuit of happiness as involving things, making experiences, or even achieving goals? What is that we all really want?

To be loved and appreciated. To be valued.

As I wrote in an earlier blog post, the value of love revolves around affection, devotion, and respect.  It’s valued in a marriage. It’s valued by everyone.

If you want to add value to someone else, feed their hunger for love and appreciation.

  1. I’ve read somewhere that Mother Teresa also wrote that Kindness is a language we all understand. Even the blind can see it and the deaf can hear it.

When you love you’re kind for others. It doesn’t need to be about romantic love. Not everybody has the chance of sharing life with a significant other but everybody is able to love people around them. As you said it is valued by everyone.

    Great post!

    • Thanks.
