Values Quotes – Vance Havner on Drive
Today’s quote is from Dr. Vance Havner, a preacher, revivalist, and author of nearly 40 books.
One of the many great quotes from Havner is:
“The vision must be followed by the venture. It is not enough to stare up the steps – we must step up the stairs.”
To me, Havner was referring to the value of drive.
As a differentiating value, drive means compel, force, or urge relentlessly; or moving in a desired direction.
Already as a young boy, Havner felt compelled to preach the Gospel. And for over 70 years, he urged people all across America to commit their life to Christ. He was relentless in his mission. And through both his preaching and writing, he made a positive impact on thousands of people.
Havner clearly had drive.
Maybe that’s why he is considered by many to be the most quoted preacher of the 20th century.
Do you have a vision to do something or achieve something significant? Are you busy staring up the steps, wondering what to do next? If so, I encourage you to embrace the value of drive and turn your vision into a venture.
As Havner suggests, step up the stairs. Begin moving in your desired direction.
You just might end up compelling others to make a positive difference too!
