Do you have a fierce marriage?

What do you think of when you hear the term: “fierce marriage”?

Maybe you have visions of violence or unhealthy aggressiveness.

Or maybe you imagine a husband and wife team actively engaged in extreme sports.

It’s true that the value of ferocity points to a more aggressive behavior. But there’s another way to view a fierce marriage.

A fierce marriage is one where both husband and wife are willing to aggressively protect and preserve it, even fiercely.

Here’s a great example – and resource.

The Fierce Marriage Blog

Fierce Marriage is the name of Ryan and Selena Frederick’s blog. As they outline in their reasoning for the name, it’s about promoting marriage where the husband and wife are always willing to fight for each other, they possess a fierce tenacity to preserve their marriage, and never give up.

It’s when a couple is committed to their marriage. There is no backup plan.

The Frederick’s also highlight that a fierce marriage does not mean being combative, or relying on your own strength. No one can do it alone.

A fierce marriage is about loving your spouse the same way that Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:25), unconditionally and willing to sacrifice everything for the other.

Lori has been following this blog for some time. So I decided to check it out too. I was delighted to discover a set of core values. Needless to say, I’m impressed!

Values for a Fierce Marriage

Ryan and Selena highlight 7 core values (or core beliefs) for how they see a fierce marriage:

  1. Jesus – viewing life and marriage through a Biblical lens
  2. Love (as an action) – real love is best expressed through action
  3. Transparency and Truth – building trust by living without secrets
  4. No Plan B – living the marriage vow “Til death do us part
  5. Intimate Sex – an important part of a healthy marriage
  6. Quality Time Together – refueling the relationship
  7. Healthy Communication – to know each other better and grow together

What a great foundation to make a meaningful difference in lives of couples who desire to have a fierce marriage.

(On a side note, the Frederick’s first child, a little girl, was just born 3 days ago. Congratulations to Ryan and Selena!)
