The power of resilience in military couples

U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Michael J. MacLeod

Married couples dedicated to military service face a unique set of challenges.

Most are younger and often have families. When the one is deployed, away for months, the other is left alone to care for the family.

The solider might by stationed far away, experiencing elements of combat and other high-risk activities. Their spouse, at home, might be doing the job of mom and dad, the plumber, lawn care specialist, head chef, etc.

This is a stressful time for everyone involved – husband, wife, children, parents, friends, and even the family dog.

Then, when the soldier returns, the couple lives through a process of reintegration that brings a whole new set of stresses.

Such couples can greatly benefit from the value of resilience.

The Value of Resilience

As a differentiating value, resilience means rebounds readily; or positive ability to recover quickly from tribulation.

Military couples live through more tribulation than most. The need for resilience is essential for survival as a couple, and also to integrate back into non-military life when they choose to do so….

You can read the rest of this post on Leadership Couples, and how you can benefit from resilience training for couples.
