Values Quotes – Guy Kawasaki on Enchantment

Today’s quote is from Guy Kawasaki, a bestselling author and Silicon Valley venture capitalist.

Kawasaki wrote a book called Enchantment, which outlines how to influence people without sacrificing your ethics.

On the topic of enchantment, he makes the following statement:
“When you enchant people, your goal is not to make money from them or to get them to do what you want, but to fill them with great delight.”

The focus of enchantment is not about us. It’s about others.

As a differentiating value, Enchantment means to attract and delight; or hold spellbound.

Have you ever tried to attract others and engage them in an idea of yours? It’s not so easy if your focus is on YOUR idea.

Maybe you know someone who possesses this value of enchantment. When they talk about an idea or make a recommendation, you can feel how they hold others spellbound.

While some might refer to them as being charismatic, what they’re really doing is leveraging the power of enchantment. Their focus is completely on others and their goal is to fill them with great delight.

So if you’re trying to influence others, in a credible and ethical way, consider the value of enchantment. Focus on what others need and finding ways to bring real delight into their lives. You just might find you CAN influence others make a difference in the world.
