The Value of Sovereignty in Leadership

The value of sovereignty means autonomous; free from external control.

Leadership Questions:

How well do you see the big picture? How big can you see?
If leadership is influence, how is the influence of others impacting your decisions?
How do you counter your natural biases to remain unbiased?
When is it hard for you to make decisions for what you know is right?

The Strength of Sovereignty

Her majesty Queen Elizabeth has been the reigning monarch since February 6, 1952. Since that time, she has advised 12 British Prime Ministers, not to mention 144 Prime Ministers spanning 32 different Commonwealth realms.

How is it possible for a leader in such a high position to remain unbiased when advising the next Prime Minister, and then the next, and then the next?

The strength of good counsel comes from appreciating the value of sovereignty.

Embracing sovereignty gives a leader permission to see the big picture without the constraints of the urgent. It helps to avoid what is commonly referenced today as ‘politics.’ It paves the way to recommend doing what’s right, even if it’s not necessarily popular.
