Values Quotes – Simon Sinek on Articulacy
Today’s quote is from Simon Sinek, an author who is best known for popularizing the concept of “the golden circle” that focuses on the question of knowing your “why.”
An inspiring quote from Sinek is:
“If you can clearly articulate the dream or the goal, start.”
Great advice that highlights the importance of the value of articulacy.
As a differentiating value, Articulacy means expressing in coherent verbal form; or to make clear or effective.
Maybe you’ve experienced the frustration when someone else is trying to say something important, yet can’t quite express themselves or why it’s important. Or maybe you’ve experienced the opposite, when someone is very articulate and you understand completely what they are saying and why it matters.
If it’s so easy to recognize when someone else is or is not very articulate, why is it so hard to be articulate with ourselves?
The reason is simple. The solution is not.
Defining what really matters to us, including our dreams and goals, is about setting priorities. It’s about choosing the few things we will focus on, and deciding what to let go or ignore. That’s hard work.
As Simon Sinek highlights so well, it’s about knowing our “why.”
If you haven’t yet watched his Ted talk, I encourage you to check it out. It’s the 7th most viewed video on TED.com. It just might help you become more articulate.
