Celebrating the Significant
If together with your spouse you are leading a meaningful life, then you are leading a life of significance.
As a differentiating value, Significance means important in effect or meaning; extent to which something matters. This is much more than things. Significance can often be measured by milestones.
Do you know all the significant milestones that matter to you and your spouse? If so, are you properly celebrating them all?
Personally, celebrating anything does not come naturally to me. It’s not one of my gifts. But with Lori’s help, I’ve learned to celebrate milestones that matter.
Milestones That Matter
- Celebrate your anniversary. Thankfully this is one date I never miss. I’m a big believer in celebrating a wedding anniversary every year. Just consider how God has preserved your marriage for another year. Consider the investment you and your spouse are making into something of lasting value. It will benefit your children and grandchildren and future generations, It’s also important to never take for granted how many years you may have left together. Each year is a precious gift from God!
- Celebrate public dates. For years I’ve skipped celebrating Valentines Day in defiance of following the crowd. February 14 was also a date I was going to propose to Lori, but was deathly ill that year (so I did it a week later). But now I think I was wrong. It’s a great day to show my wife she is still My Valentine! There are also other important public dates to celebrate together, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. Maybe you’ve even created your own unique traditions for these special occasions. It’s all part of celebrating!
- Celebrate private dates. In addition to your anniversary, there may be special dates of significance to you and your spouse. This might include the date you first met, or the date of your engagement. As time goes on, there may even be new “dates” of significance that you should celebrate. If the date is important to you or your spouse, celebrate it!
- Celebrate business dates. For couples in business together, it’s important to celebrate business anniversaries. Regardless of the ups and downs of any business, it’s good to acknowledge God’s grace that has preserved your livelihood and the opportunity to continue adding values to others. While many companies honor the day the business was founded, you and your spouse can make your celebration extra special because you are the founders!
