Values Quotes – Annette Hayward on Direction

Today’s quote is from Annette Hayward. While I found a number of great quotes from this woman, I couldn’t uncover any details about her personally.

But this one quote I thought was worth sharing with you today:

“God has given us two feet but they cannot go in different directions.”

That’s a simple, but powerful statement.

Hayward highlights that it’s physically impossible to go in two different directions. God didn’t make us that way.

And yet, every time we have to make a choice between one path over another, we often struggle with that decision. Why? Because we want both.

But if we want to move forward, we need to decide on a direction.

As a differentiating value, direction has a few different meanings, including guidance; steering; act of managing something; commission; or focus.

If we’re to fulfill our God-given purpose, then the value of direction can be a powerful ally. To help focus and steer us forward, we need to make sure both feet – that is everything in our lives – are aligned in the same direction.

When they are, not only can we move forward, we might even find we can run!

Today’s value was selected from the “Effectiveness-Influence” category, based on the e-book Developing Your Differentiating Values.

  1. I only have one thing to add to this quote. When you do try to go in two different directions, God usually sits you down HARD on your backside. ;-D
I believe he does this to remind us that we cannot go in two directions at once.

    • Merry, you are so right.
