The Value of Stability in Leadership
The value of stability means firm and steadfast; constancy.
Leadership Questions:
- Who is relying on your ability to remain steadfast?
- In your organization, are you viewed as a trustworthy pillar or a traffic pylon?
- Are you firmer in your thinking or your convictions?
- As a leader, are you trying to prove you are perfect or persistent?
- What things eat away at your stability? How are you guarding against them?
Serving with Stability
In the book Lead Like Jesus, authors Ken Blanchard and Phil Hodges ask the question: “Are you a servant leader or a self-serving leader?” The most effective leaders are servant leaders.
Some have the erroneous view that servant leaders are weak and can be easily pushed around. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Servant leaders embrace the value of stability. Others trust and rely on them. No one expects the leader to be perfect. Just stable.
Servant leaders demonstrate their stability by:
- Communicating a vision with such clarity others can see it and believe in it.
- Developing others and ensuring each one is leveraging their strengths and minimizing their weaknesses.
- Adapting to change that supports the mission, without destroying the integrity of the team.
- Generating results while enhancing relationships.
- Consistently living their stated values, both fundamental and differentiating values.
