Values Quotes – Zig Ziglar on Aspiration
Todays quote is from Zig Ziglar, the famous motivational speaker and author of various books.
An insightful quote from Ziglar is:
“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.”
As a motivational speaker, Ziglar intimately understood the value of aspiration.
As a differentiating value, Aspiration means ambition; a cherished desire; or a will to succeed.
Most people are motivated by a desire for something specific. It’s what they aspire after. Maybe it’s a new house, a dream vacation, or a better job. Or maybe it’s to lose weight or pay off all their debts. Or maybe it’s something big, like building a business or landing a huge contract. These essentially become their goals.
And such goals are fine, but there’s a danger in making these things our primary aspirations in life.
What Ziglar was suggesting is that the product of our goals does not represent who we are. It’s what we become that’s far more important.
So, as you ponder your various aspirations, don’t focus too much on what you might get. Instead, consider what it is you want to become. Then, make that your real aspiration in life.
Today’s value was selected from the “Determination-Focus” category, based on the e-book Developing Your Differentiating Values.
