Values Quotes – George Bernard Shaw on Responsibility
Today’s quote is from George Bernard Shaw, the famous Irish playwright and co-founder of the London School of Economics.
George stated:
“Liberty means responsibility.”
Now that has punch. We all enjoy freedom, but are we willing to pay the price?
As a value, Responsibility can have 2 meanings:
– duty or obligation to perform or complete a task; or
– accountable for one’s behavior.
I think George understood both meanings – duty and accountability. While not everyone might agree with the personal views of George Bernard Shaw, no one would challenge HIS sense of responsibility. Maybe that’s why he was awarded both a Nobel Prize for Literature and an Oscar.
If you’re struggling over something important – maybe that will impact the freedoms of your family, your faith, or your future – I encourage your to consider the real value of responsibility.
What’s most worthy of your obligation and signing up to be accountable?
If we don’t take responsibility for our actions we have no one else to blame but our self!
So true!
